Fr. James Kimani Kairu
Spiritual Director/Member, Board of Trustees
Kenya, Africa
Fr. James Kimani KAIRU earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy and a
bachelor's degree in theology from Urbaniana University in Rome. He is currently
taking an STL at the Jesuit school of theology at Berkeley, California, specializing
in systematic theology with emphasis on culture and conversion.

He worked as a diocesan youth chaplain and diocesan vocations director from
1998-2006. He then got involved in establishing the international rural movement
for the youth in Africa called M.I.J.A.R.C., and became the acting national chaplain.
He discovered the real problems of people and how he needed  to use his
education and experience to assist the many poor and displaced in the society.

Fr. James believes that there should be a paradigm-shift of what mission should
be: from the idea of 'changing' people to an approach through friendship and
witness. We need to reach out to people with a smile, a loving heart and presence
and make them, who are discouraged, have hope and life again.
